Bernstein wrote these "K Blues" (K for Koussevitzky) as a humorous, but heartfelt homage to his mentor:
I. A. I woke up this morning with rehearsal five minutes away.
With such a feeling in my stomach how was I ever going to play?
B. I came down to the shed with a three day beard
When I saw Koussevitsky, my blues disappeared.
